A Year of Celebration Culminates Next Week with Two Special Events at the Grand Ole Opry House
NASHVILLE, Tenn., - October 17, 2012– The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation(MPCF), a Nashville-based nonprofit with broad national reach, will conclude their year-long celebration of Minnie Pearl’s 100th birthday and the organization’s 25th anniversary next week with a flurry of activities and events. Months of celebration which have included heart-warming "Minnie Moments," Facebook contests, and even a star-studded online auction have all led to next week’s festivities.
The celebration week kicks off with proclamations from Nashville Mayor, Karl Dean, and Tennessee Governor, Bill Haslam. Both have proclaimed next week as "Celebrate Minnie Pearl and Her Legacy Week." In addition, events will be hosted at the Grand Ole Opry House on Monday and Tuesday nights. There are a limited number of tickets still available for Center Stage at the Opry on Monday, October 22 at 6 p.m.Presented by Lexus and sponsored by Kroger, First Tennessee, C3, Earl Swensson Associates, LevelWing, Lipman Brothers, and the Grand Ole Opry, this special evening will celebrate the life of Minnie Pearl and her legacy, The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. The night will feature live performances by Amy Grant, Vince Gill, The Oak Ridge Boys, Roy Clark, and Clare Bowen (Star of ABC's hit series Nashville) as well as heartfelt tributes by some of Minnie's dearest friends and admirers. The intimate fund-raising evening will be hosted on the Opry House stage. Tickets start at $500 per person and all proceeds benefit MPCF. Guests will enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails prior to the performances and story sharing. The evening will close with desserts and mingling backstage at the Opry House. On Tuesday, October 23, The Opry will tip its hat to Minnie Pearl with a special show in honor of the beloved comedienne’s 100thbirthday. The show will feature performances and remembrances by Amy Grant, Opry members Vince Gill, Mel Tillis, Pam Tillis and Jimmy Dickens, comedians Henry Cho, Anita Renfroe and T. Bubba Bechtol, and more. In celebration of Minnie’s legacy of caring for others, five dollars from every ticket purchasedfor the show will go to The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation and their mission.
Minnie undoubtedly left her mark on the Opry stage, but her impact is felt well beyond Music City. After Sarah Cannon, also known as comedienne “Minnie Pearl,” was successfully treated for breast cancer, she became a passionate supporter in the fight against cancer.
Minnie understood that while vital medical care is essential, those newly diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers need real-life support to cope with a life-changing cancer diagnosis.
