Dolly Parton on the Death of Whitney Houston

Saturday, February 11, 2012 - 23:09

Mine is only one of the millions of hearts broken over the death of Whitney Houston. I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song, and I can truly say from the bottom of my heart, “Whitney, I will always love you. You will be missed.”

Thanks for these kind words, Dolly.

Yes, Whitney Houston will be missed. She sung your song beautifully. Not like you. But still great, in her own way that she did. Yes, she will be missed.

Still crying inside.

R.I.P. Whitney Houston

I Look to You~sung by Whitney Houston
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Pze_mdbOK8

Glorified art Thou, O Lord my God! I beseech Thee by Thy Chosen Ones, and by the Bearers of Thy Trust, and by Him Whom Thou hast ordained to be the Seal of Thy Prophets and of Thy Messengers, to let Thy remembrance be my companion, and Thy love my aim, and Thy face my goal, and Thy name my lamp, and Thy wish my desire, and Thy pleasure my delight.

I am a sinner, O my Lord, and Thou art the Ever-Forgiving. As soon as I recognized Thee, I hastened to attain the exalted court of Thy loving-kindness. Forgive me, O my Lord, my sins which have hindered me from walking in the ways of Thy good-pleasure, and from attaining the shores of the ocean of Thy oneness.

There is no one, O my Lord, who can deal bountifully with me to whom I can turn my face, and none who can have compassion on me that I may crave his mercy. Cast me not out, I implore Thee, of the presence of Thy grace, neither do Thou withhold from me the outpourings of Thy generosity and bounty. Ordain for me, O my Lord, what Thou hast ordained for them that love Thee, and write down for me what Thou hast written down for Thy chosen ones. My gaze hath, at all times, been fixed on the horizon of Thy gracious providence, and mine eyes bent upon the court of Thy tender mercies. Do with me as beseemeth Thee. No God is there but Thee, the God of power, the God of glory, Whose help is implored by all men."

(Prayer revealed by Bahá'u'lláh, Prayers and Meditations, p. 29-30)

May Whitney's ascention be peaceful

Yet, lets not canonize her yet.

Whitney was the poster child for women who fall for the wrong man, and had there not been such obsessive conjecture of her sexuality when she was young, perhaps she would not have felt such pressure to be with a man, and chose a little better for herself.

What gets me is her signature song: It was Dolly's words and melody (My generation's Adelle) and from what I read, never gave Dolly her due about the song. Gifts from God are wonderful, but they must be shared for the good, lest they be taken away. That is for all of us...

Even Quincy Jones mentioned this on the CBS show this morning, about how gifts like this is from a higher power...and thus respected this and "Endured a long time"...he even mentioned that a great singer, you need a great song to be remembered...for no matter how great the singer is, you can't make a bad song work..."I will always love you.." is a great song.

Dolly, thank you for writing such a song, being who you are, and even being gracious to this day. You are with God's gifts, and shared and gave back, and done right for your folks In Tennessee and endure to this day. You are a paragon...and the world is a better place for having YOU in this world....

Incredible Sorrow over Whitney's Passing, but..

.. I cannot deny, when I hear
'I Will Always Love You'.. I still hear Dolly! Though Whitney Houston's rendition was astoundingly huge in audience's ovation of joyous acceptance.
For me, Gun to Head-Hand to God,.. Dolly's voice has more Soul! A Deeper understanding of it due to Writing it..cannot be missed when you not only hear it, But FEEL the Music coming from Ms. Parton's passionate vocals.
I know i cannot be the Only one who thinks this way.

Donation of some proceeds

I love dolly and all she has done for this world. I hope she will consider making a donation to a facility that helps people in need due to the addiction of drugs and alcohol with some of the unexpected proceeds due to surge in sales. I have lived a good life in part due to Dolly's influence. Thank you for being such a positive role model.

Donations to Rehab

I have worked in Rehab, and it doesn’t work unless the person wants it to work. But the drugs and drink as the SIDE EFFECT/BY PRODUCT of another under lying issue. Donating money won't help, but providing people with unconditional love will. Whitney didn't feel like she could be loved for whom she was, and this came from the very person who she loved the most, her own parents...and she tried to fix it to keep everyone happy, and the money coming, and it back fired. That’s why Whitney told her daughter "Be truer to herself." No truer words were spoken.

Dolly, working with kids programming, walking in with all that is you, accepting who you wanted to be (Big hair, big boobed country bumpkin with a heart of gold and voice of an angle) the way you wanted to be, and showing the world you made it...that’s what you should do.

After all, time is our most valuable thing...we can throw all the money out there all we want, ( look at our education programs) it don't mean it will work. You can buy the prettiest, most expensive horse in the world, but if you can't give it your time to train it to carry you, all you will have is a horse with no more function than big pet.

Time, Miss Dolly…Time is what we could use from you now…
Public service announcements on acceptance and tolerance “Country Style”, you and Elton John or Clay Aiken, or better yet, Queen Latifa.(That would be perfect) ..that would be very cool. If you could do that, lady…you would help so many.

Please, please…consider that. For there is someone somewhere tonight drowning out something painful they don’t have the courage to face, and ruining their lives in the meantime. Now that is a mission and cross to bear…

R.I.P. Whitney Houston & Dolly royalties

All the advice of how Dolly should contribute her time and the proceeds of her royalties due to the untimely death of Whitney Houston are admirable, however,as her fans, I feel it is certainly not our place to place any expectations or pressure on her what to do with those proceeds. It's none of our "bidzness". Just sayin'....

DOLLY’S Song (emphasis mine!)

from an article on TMZ:

Dolly Parton is eating her words after calling "I Will Always Love You" HER song -- despite it being made famous by Whitney Houston -- and now tells TMZ, she's happy to share it with the late R&B legend.
Dolly took a lot of flack after her previous statement following Whitney's death -- "I will always be grateful and in awe of the wonderful performance she did on my song."
But Dolly's loosening her grip on her country classic -- telling us, "I did not know Whitney, nor any of her family personally; but she will always be a part of my heart and I will always be grateful for her awesome performance and success with our song “(emphasis hers).
Dolly's original version of the song was released in 1974. Whitney famously covered the track in 1992 for "The Bodyguard."

I believe the complainers should note the facts before they publicize their stupidity. "I Will Always Love You" has always been Dolly’s song. She wrote the words and music and she performed it long before Houston ever knew it existed. I fell in love with the song when Dolly performed it on “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” and I have never heard it done better by anyone else. Whitney made a remake of the song several years later and it was well-received but that doesn’t make it “hers”.

I admire Dolly for her subsequent statement with the words “our song” even though she did not have to ‘share’ ownership. I believe she was hoping to settle the “ruffled feathers” and refocus the attention back on celebrating Houston’s life and grieving her loss. Well done Dolly.

Westboro Baptist Church: Please Sue, Dolly

Westboro Baptist has denigrated your beautiful song, if only for purposes of furthering the grief of Whitney's family and fans everywhere. They have taken a song of love and made it into an instrument of hate. Please sue, please sue. I know they enjoy "free speech" but your song is copyrighted. Please defend both yourself and Whitney.

Westboro parody youtube "hate"video re: I Will Always Love You

I just saw a video posted on youtube by Westboro Baptist Church that is a hate parody of I Will Always Love You...with the words changed to hateful and despicable lyrics that slam and degrade Whitney Houston. Is this even legal? Wow! I sure hope they get sued.
