My heart is with Whitney and her family as they lay her to rest. I did not know Whitney nor any of her family personally; but she will always be a part of my heart and I will always be grateful for her awesome performance and success with our song “I Will Always Love You”. Rest in peace, Whitney. – Dolly Parton
Dolly, you are the sweetest
Dolly, you are the sweetest most genuine, caring and loving person ever. You should not have to say "our" song, it is your song and they should not be criticising you for saying "my song". You wrote it therefore it is yours, no matter who sings it!! I hope you don't feel bad for saying it, you shouldn't. You made a beautiful, heartfelt statement about Whitney's death and all they can do is criticise you for calling "I Will Always Love You" your song, when it is YOURS!!
Another beautiful statement from you, R.I.P. Whitney
I will always love you Dolly xoxox
Your a class act DOLLY!
I loved your previous comment which I saw on many news outlets. You have always been gracious at how much you love Whitneys version and how grateful you are for her recording it. It is your song as we all know, I had the pleasure of seeing Whitney once in concert and you over 30 times since the late 70s, your version brings me to tears when you sing it live still today, last time 10/2011 in Clearwater. I will always LOVE you DOLLY! Vincent
You are gracious
Knowing that Whitney's familly is probably watching the boards like Michael Jackson's did...Whitney's daughter is to be considered here...and Dolly is of those of God, so she would be gracious with the "Its our song". People know we just borrow energies and credits for things invented or designed, for it all truly belongs to God anyway..no matter who wrote it, sung it, produced it, and any other stupid egotistical thing that gets in our way to developing into better people...
Indeed, Whitney gave it something special, as this is the one that rings in my head more than Dolly's version...Dolly wrote it, sung it with her pretty country voice, but Whitney gave it the "World Audience" that every artist, if they sung it or not, would want for thier song.
Thank you Dolly for telling your fans to "Cool it"...we got it, love...but we just wanted to let you know, we know who desrved the true credit. Your cue is duly noted.
We Love You
That is so sweet Dolly
So kind of you <3
You are a true hero for saying that. I still can't believe that your kind words were causing a little controversy at all. Yes, it makes me mad when people don't give you credit. And it made me even more mad when you had to call IWALY 'our song'. I know that you're taking it much better than I am because you're an angel, Dolly. So sweet, loving, caring and kind-hearted <3 I really hope, you're doing good. Let us fans be angry with the people that were bitching about you. You know that we will always love you. And we are millions. Another thing I want you to know: no one's got a voice like you do. Yours is heaven <3 God bless you, Dolly. <3
You are so sweet! :)
Was somebody criticizing you, Dolly? I don't why anyone would. You are such sweetheart too. And, so was Whitney. I think all the statements are wonderful. It's just nice to hear your voice everytime.
Take care! And, I hope grand opening and the getting ready is going great for you guys. Well, I'm sure it is! And, I will be bringing the family this time for summer. The kids cannot wait to see shows there too. My oldest seems to love theater, art and books, since the time I took them both out to a show of their own before their mamma's Dolly show that night. :)
Love Always, Stephanie
What A Sweet, Generous Heart!
I agree with other posters who have observered there was no obligation or need on your part to classify "I Will Always Love You" as "our" song with respect to Ms. Houston.
I don't understand why anyone would criticize your prior statement. But I do understand this - nobody could hold a candle to your warmth, generosity, and unparalleled class in doing what you did.
It's no wonder your fans truly love you for just being your wonderful, warm, genuine "you". I'm lucky to count myself as one of those fans. And we will always, always, always love you!
My prayers and thoughts go
My prayers and thoughts go out to Whitney's family, and may she rest in peace. I have always enjoyed her singing. But I have always loved Dolly Pardon, just a wonderful person she is. I grew up listening to her and will continue to and "I will always Love you" is Dolly's song. No one will ever be able to sing it as she does.
Dolly hope you did`nt take
Dolly hope you did`nt take any of that criticizing to hart you had alrights to call it your song because it is, you wrote it not whitney, she only sang it. Your the sweetest person. you keep writeing and singing those awesome songs dolly
blah
Blah...the politics...always disliked it....Not once in 30 years have i thought to myself 'Dolly what on earth are you doing??' so i'm not about to start now lol....all i want to say is if everyone who covered a Beatles song claimed half of it...it would be called 'so and so' by the Beatles and everyone else under the sun!. It was nice of you Dolly...but you got to give your fans some leeway to be annoyed that you felt that you had to retract what you said....and i'm sorry you felt you had too...
Dolly you are the most
Dolly you are the most sweetest person, I totally agree, you don't need to say "our song" it's your song always will be you wrote and recorded it first. These people should be ashamed they don't know much about their music icons. Can't people just be nice, why do they have to always say negative things about others. I think Whitney would be disappointed in these people for giving you trouble about your song. In my eyes Dolly you are an angel on earth. Mybe some should listen and open their eyes they might learn something. You have always inspired me, you are a honest down to earth, and over all wonderful person. I have never met you but hope some day I will. Your long time fan... Lynn from Canada!
